More Defence and Offence for Raiders

30-June-2009

The Wightlink Raiders can today confirm the signing of two more players to their 2009-2010 squad.

Defenceman Kevin Tanner signs up for his first season with the Raiders, having spent the past two seasons with the Vectis Tigers.

Kevin like his teammates Alex Murray and David Webb, is a former Solent and Gosport Junior Ice Hockey player, he progressed to have two highly successful seasons with their ENL team before making the move to the Island.

Last season Tanner notched up 24 points in 26 games for the Tigers while amassing 122 penalty minutes.

Also putting pen to paper is impressive youngster Kieran Annis, who comes to the Raiders from the Isle of Wight Junior Ice Hockey Club.

The 5' 9" forward has a good hockey brain and great skill with the puck. Scoring 15 goals and 9 assists in just 14 games for the Islands Under 18's squad last term saw him finish the season as the teams top points and goal scorer.

18-year-old Annis has several games experience in the ENL having iced games for the Vectis Tigers during the past two seasons, last season scoring 3 points in 9 games for the Division 2 team.

A Raiders spokesperson expects both new players to make their mark.

"Kevin has a good amount of experience at this level having played against many of the teams we are going to face for a number of years. He is a reliable defenceman who can also contribute on the score board, he plays a hard game that is sure to be popular with Raiders fans."

"Kieran has been one of the Islands best prospects for several seasons and is now ready for the step up to the Raiders, people will be impressed with his work rate and technical ability."
