Head Coach

 

30-year-old Gareth joined the Raiders from the Swindon Wildcats of the EPL at the start of last season, after having played for several Swindon based teams over the last decade. Gareth started last season as an Assistant Captain, later briefly becoming the Captian before taking over the coaching job in November.

This season Gareth will build his own team as he looks to take the Raiders back to Play Off hockey.

Bench Coach

 

Simon is an experienced coach, spending several years as Assistant Coach for the Swindon Wildcats in the EPL, as well as being Head Coach of the Link Centres ENL team in their inaugural year. Simon spent last season just across the water as Head Coach of the Solent and Gosport Ice Hockey Club, and was set to head across the pond to coach Junior A hockey in Canada this season, before his new club fell into financial trouble shortly before his departure.

39 - Mike Brabon

 

 

British Trained 

 

23 year old Brabon has proved to be one of the Premier League's top goaltenders in the last two years playing for Telford, Romford,Solihull and Swindon.  Prior to that he played for the Cardiff Devils in the Elite League, for whom he also played five games last season when they hit injury troubles. Brabon, a native of Caerphilly in Wales brings a wealth of experience to the team despite his young age.

Toby Cooley joins the Raiders again this season for what will be his eleventh at the club, having originally graduated from Rydes very own junior teams. Toby sat out most of last season with Injury but came back in spectacular style in the last two months, his performances earning him the 'players player of the year' award. Off the Ice 27-year-old Toby is the face of the Raiders, as he visits local schools promoting both the team and the islands junior development programme.

 Gareth joins the Raiders for a second term this season, he continues as the teams head coach a role which he took on in November last year.

Gareth brings a wealth of experience and skill to the team. He is a physical player with some of his best goals scored while he is playing strong, aggressive hockey.

26 - Adam Brittle

 

British Trained 

 22-Year-Old Brittle joins the Raiders this term after spending the past two and a half seasons with the Swindon Wildcats, prior to which he spent an impressive half a season with the island team. During his time at Swindon Adam played 75 games and clocked up a total of 74 points, earning him a reputation with many as one of the top British Forwards in this league. 'Britsy' as he has become known, is a player with great speed and vision on the ice, he can score regularly and has the art of creating goals for his team mates. Adam is set to be a massive part of the team this year and sure to be a fans favourite.

Tom Long joins the Raiders this term for his first season on the Island, having spent the last two with the Chelmsford Chieftains. Long who has previously played in Romford, Slough and Haringey scored 26 points in 35 games last season and has proven over a number of years that he knows where the net is. Tom never gives less than 110% every time he steps out on the ice and is described to play a hard hitting, gritty style of hockey. Long brings great experience and leadership to the team after captaining his Chelmsford side last season, and is set to make a big impact in the Raiders new team.

80 - Juraj Rusic

 

Slovakian Trained

 

Juraj Rusic, a 28-year-old Right Winger came to the Raiders mid way through last season after a brief spell at Romford, before which he spent two very successful seasons with the Swindon Wildcats. After joining the club Juraj made an instant impact as he became our most productive player with more points per game than any of his teammates. Juraj learnt his hockey skills playing for HC Kosice juniors in his native country of Slovakia, who he later went on to play many professional senior games with. 5' 11'' Rusic also spent three seasons racking up remarkable stats in the 1.liga, and is sure to impress once again this year.

17 - Joel Petkoff

 

Canadian Trained

 

Joel Petkoff joined the Raiders mid way through the 2008-2009 season, bringing great firepower to the Raiders line up. The 26-year-old sniper has an impressive hockey CV, having previously scored 207 points in just 105 EPL games. Joel started his senior hockey career in the SPHL where he spent three seasons, he also has 6 games to his name in the tough ECHL. Petkoff a native of Toronto in Canada is sure to quickly become a big hit on the island, and a firm fans favourite.

19 - Danny Hughes

 

British Trained 

 

Danny joined the Raiders part way through last season and proved to be a great pick up. Previous to this Hughes played three seasons with the Bracknell Bees, where he posted decent stats. But the 24-year-old had more to give coming to the Island and securing his place firmly on the first line Hughes impressively racked up over a point a game. While most of Danny's career including his junior years has been spent in Bracknell he has also played for the Chelmsford Chieftains, and the England U-20's. Danny is best known for his blistering Slap shot, which has caught many a Netminder unaware.

23 - Andrew Robinson

 

British Trained 

 

Andy first joined the Raiders back in 2003 and has iced for the team every season since. 27-year-old Robinson is a reliable and passionate player who never gives less than 100% every time he steps out on the ice. Before joining the Island team 'Robo' as he has become known, played for the Basingstoke Buffalo in the ENL. This is one player that is sure to be a firm fans favourite once again this season.

16 - Alan Green

 

British Trained 

 

Alan is a fast skating right winger who is described to have good stick handling ability and an eye for the back of the net. Having played the last five season for Oxford Stars of the ENL 'Steamy' is ready for the move up to the EPL having missed out previously due to work commitments. Since joining the ENL Green has been a consistent scorer and last season finished sixth overall in points for the South division A, with 20 goals and 9 assists from 13 games. Alan has GB experience with both the under 14's and under 18's, and with 17 years playing experience adds solid depth to the Raiders squad.

30 - Shannon Taylor

Shannon joins the Raiders from Swindon, where last season he split his time with both their EPL and ENL teams. Despite being only 17 years old Taylor has 57 EPL games to his name and proven scoring ability in the ENL, last year racking up 23 points from 10 games.  The 5' 8'' youngster is regarded by many as not only one of the top prospects in the league but also a player who has a lot to offer now. Shannon is another of our players that boasts GB junior international experience.  His addition to the squad further strengthens the Raiders for the new season.

Damon is no stranger to Ice Hockey on the Island, having come up through the rinks junior teams, and making his debut for the Raiders in 2002.  22-year-old Larter will rejoin the Raiders for his sixth season with the club this year, after receiving three of the end of season awards last year, including Defenseman of the year. Damon played an amazing season for the team last year and is an important returnee in the Raiders new improved defensive line up.

2 - Janne Saarenpaa

 

Finnish Trained

 

Janne joins the Raiders this season for what will be his first in British Ice Hockey. The 5'11'' Finn describes himself as a hard-hitting stay at home defenceman, who plays a simple defensive game and clears his zone. Saarenpaa has plenty of experience despite only being 25-years-old, having played in Finland, Norway, Sweden, Spain and America. One thing is for sure Janne will be an interesting player to watch and is sure to be popular with the loyal Raiders Fans!

27 - Shawn Mole

 

Canadian Trained 

 Shawn Mole joins the Raiders from Yale University where he played in the tough NCAA Division 1. 23-year-old Mole is a strong skating defenceman who handles the puck well. Shawn is said to have good positional play and reads the game well, he will make good decisions with the puck and compete hard every shift. The 6'1" native of Ontario in Canada made the final 2004 NHL Draft List and was Drafted in the OHL second round showing the quality that Shawn will bring to the team.

37 - Luke Reynolds

Luke joins this year's team as another newcomer to the Island, but brings with him plenty of experience. Reynolds has iced 56 games in the Elite Ice Hockey League with Basingstoke Bison and 51 games in the old British National League with Bracknell. Luke comes to the team after icing the majority of the last two seasons with Romford and Chelmsford in the EPL. The former Bracknell junior is a solid defenceman who sticks to his job, preventing opposing players getting to our net. Luke is a great addition to out defensive line up.

20 - Yousif Abu Saada

 

British Trained 

 

Yousif Abu Saada is a product of the Swindon Junior set up, and joins the Raiders this season for his first time away from Swindon. In his first two years of Senior Hockey Yousif has iced in 55 English Premier League games for the Swindon Wildcats and 10 ENL games also for Swindon. Yousif is another who will bring great experienced depth to the roster and will give Coach Endicott the options needed to ice a tight reliable defence.

Alex Murray was signed to the Islands ENL team the Vectis Tigers and stepped up to join the Raiders towards the end of the season when the Tigers were not playing themselves. Alex did not look out of place in the higher league and has a bright future.

33 - Jason Coles

 

Canadian Trained

Jason Coles played his first British game in 1995 for Bracknell and has consistently been one of the top players at his level. He signed for the Raiders in 1999 and has been with the team ever since, racking up some impressive stats and stepping up for his team when needed, including a recent game between the pipes. 'Colesy' will turn his hand to just about anything, playing in defence regularly and even coaching the team for two seasons. At the age of 34 Coles is still consistently one of the top ten points scorers in the EPL.

21-Year-Old Scott joins the raiders this season after spending a year across the channel in France. Daniel is a good British defenceman who has a lot of Elite League experience with the Nottingham Panthers. The 6'2'' D-man has played with both Solihull and Romford in the English Premier League previously and is known for his size, physical play and accurate shot.

Will returns to the Raiders this season for his third consecutive year with the team. In his first season at Ryde Arena he picked up the 'Best Newcomer' award, after seeing a large amount of ice time on the teams top two lines. Before joining the Raiders Will played Junior Hockey with both Guildford and Swindon, and played two seasons of Senior Hockey with Basingstoke Buffalo of the English National League. Now with two full EPL seasons behind him Will is sure to add solid depth to the teams defensive line up with his simple but reliable stay at home style.

77 - Bradley Watchorn

Bradley joins the Raiders from Bracknell where he was a hugely successful member of their junior set up. The 19-year-old went on to play for both the Bracknell Hornets (ENL) and the Bracknell Bees (EPL) with a two-year stint in Canada where he played Junior A hockey. The 6'3" utility player will play as both a defenceman and forward this season, and is ready to show the league what he can do. Bradley is a physical player who will stand up for his team mates and ensure the Raiders have a presence on the ice.
